Kultur | lx - Arts Council Luxembourg has named local artist Justine Blau the winner of its 2023 research and creation residency for visual artists in Montreal, Canada.
Kultur | lx - Arts Council Luxembourg, in collaboration with Fonderie Darling, offers visual artists a three-month research and creation residency at Fonderie Darling in Montreal. For the first year, and as a pilot project, the residency has been extended by three weeks at the Gare de Matapédia in Gaspésie as part of a cross-residency programme between Montreal and Matapédia.
Following a call for applications, the jury composed of Stéphane Meyers (Rotondes), Stilbé Schroeder (Casino Luxembourg - Forum d'Art Contemporain) and Suzan Noesen (artist and 2022 residency winner) decided to grant the residency to Justine Blau for her project "Voyage en solastalgie".
The jury praised Justine's "solid career rooted in the territory" paired with her openness to "all kinds of influences and horizons". The jury described the Luxembourg-born artist's works as "very accomplished pieces", characterised by an "intrinsic quality" and felt that the way in which her approach and her project "centred on the way in which Aboriginal communities in Canada conceive and transmit the idea of nature and landscape could flourish during a residency in Montreal". The jury also saluted Justine's investment in the Luxembourg scene and the synergies she was able to create around her.
