The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (Corps grand-ducal d'incendie et de secours - CGDIS) has announced that the Cattenom nuclear power plant was shut down on the night of Friday 10 to Saturday 11 June 2022,

According to EDF, the operator of the Cattenom nuclear power plant, this intervention was in accordance with the annual maintenance programme of the production unit No 1.

This scheduled shut down, called a “partial inspection”, allowed in part to renew nuclear fuel and make numerous checks and maintenance operations.

In total, 12,000 activities are planned, such as the complete inspection of the alternator in the engine room, the maintenance of the emergency diesels and the hydraulic test of the main secondary circuit. At the same time, more than 40 modifications will be carried out to raise the safety level of the facilities.

Production units No 3 and No 4 are already shut down whilst the production unit No 2 is in operation, and continued supplies to the national electricity grid.
