the Luxembourg Embassy in Washington DC;

On Saturday 12 May 2018, the Luxembourg Embassy in Washington DC held an Open House for the public.

Discover not only the mansion, purchased in 1941 by H.R.H Grand Duchess Charlotte, that hosts until today the Luxembourg Embassy to the US, but also learn about modern day Luxembourg,” stated the European Union Open brochure.

Throngs of excited visitors took advantage of a nice warm spring day in Washington to visit the historic building located at a key intersection of Massachusetts and Florida Avenues across from the Cosmos Club. Queues formed early and snaked around the block by mid-afternoon, such was the interest in viewing the building.

This is an annual event on a Saturday dedicated for opening up the Embassy as part of the outreach effort by the European Union in collaboration with Passport DC and the European-American Cultural Foundation. The Open House event started at 10:00 and lasted for six hours at the Embassy’s central location on the path to many other diplomatic buildings in Embassy Row. Like in years past, visitors experienced the culture and cuisine of Luxembourg. Parents brought children along to learn about the Grand Duchy.

Since 2018 was designated as the Year of European Cultural Heritage, this made the Open House more interesting and contributed to the large interest in the building.
The visitors enjoyed hospitality provided by H.E. Ambassador Sylvie Lucas, Deputy Chief of Mission, Veronique Dockendorf, and assisted by the staff, which includes Elisabeth Herndler and Victoria Vieru.
