Kinepolis is organising screenings of the documentary "Hermitage - The Power of Art" at Ciné Utopia in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg on 7 and 12 January 2020, as part of its "Art at the Movies" series.
The film presents the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia, as a living being. It depicts the daily life of the museum as it is today, leaving behind the "here and now" to trace two and a half centuries of history. Toni Servillo will guide audiences in this journey that builds cultural bridges between places and distant civilisations.
A magnificent complex of buildings gathering the largest collection of paintings in the world, the Hermitage (and Saint Petersburg) has long been a meeting place for foreign artists, architects and intellectuals, creating links between art and culture. The history of the museum is marked by the acquisitions of Empress Catherine II (also known as Catherine the Great), whose personality has continued to fascinate art historians and critics over the centuries.
