The 19th 1000km Hesper race will take place on Sunday 8 July 2018; as in previous years, the organising committee of the "Laftreff Hesper" as well as the municipality of Hesperange have renewed their confidence in Handicap International.

The objective of the race is to gather the greatest number of runners to run at least 1000 kilometres in total. The record to beat is 8.850 kilometres. Those wishing to take part in the race, should register at Centre Nicolas Braun in Hesperange (Alzingen) on 8 July any time between 08:00 and 12:00. The planned course is 2 kilometres but racers are free to do as many laps as they want. 

During the race, members of Handicap International Luxembourg will be accompanied by numerous volunteers to raise awareness among participants and visitors of the problem of the use of explosive weapons in populated areas such as Syria, Yemen and Iraq. Participants and visitors will be able to show their solidarity by signing a petition calling for the end of these inhumane practices or by depositing their used shoes in a mini-footwear pyramid. Other awareness activities will also be available at Handicap International's booth, including a children's drawing workshop, a virtual reality experience and a quiz. Teams of companies can also participate in the race as a team-building exercise. Registrations for these teams close on 28 June. 

As a reminder, the 2017 edition gathered 643 participants who ran 6614 kilometres to collect a sum of €5,500 which went towards clearing just as many square-metres and ensured the safety of dozens of villages from accidents. 

Registration costs a minimum of €5 to be paid to the Laftreff Hesper Committee via transfer to the CCP of the LT Hesper CCP of the LT Hesper: LU97 1111 1712 4237 0000 or on the spot on the day of the race.

A free raffle is included for each participant and there will be food and drink stands provided, as well as sanitary and shower facilities on site. There will also be prizes for the best runners.
