Details: On Saturday 10 June 2017, the Bee Together initiative is organising a Pesticide-Free Plants for Pollinators event from 11:00 to 14:00 at the premises of InnoPlantes in Kapenacker (1 Rue de la Forêt; near Wormeldange).
"You have seen the campaigns calling on us to help the bees. But buying a beehive is not always practical, is unlikely to improve honey bee health, and may increase competition for floral resources. Honey bees - and bumblebees and butterflies and other pollinators - need all the flowers they can find. But not all flowering plants are created equal. In fact, many plants we purchase for our gardens have been treated with pesticides that are intended to protect the plant, but actually harm the bees and butterflies that visit them. It can be difficult to find pesticide-free plants, but there are producers in Luxembourg."
EBL and Bee Together are organising the visit to InnoPlantes to discover pesticide-free plants that attract and benefit bees and butterflies. Owner Sylvie Schmit will take participants on a short tour of her garden business, giving participants the opportunity to see and learn about locally-grown flowering plants.
Those interested may choose one of two time slots: 11:00-11:45 or 11:45-12:30. Afterwards, participants are welcome to join in at a picnic lunch in the gardens at InnoPlantes; please bring a dish to share.
To start your pesticide-free garden and as a thank you for the tour, the organisers are encouraging participants to purchase plants from InnoPlantes on the day or in the future.
The event is not accessible via public transportation.
