Details:
Details: On 2 February, the eve of St. Blaise’s day, children all over the country celebrate ‘Liichtmessdaach’ (Candle-day). They celebrate the light by going ‘liichten’ in the evening; they carry around lanterns in all kinds of colours and shapes and go from house to house in groups and sing a song dedicated to St. Blaise. It goes along the lines of “Leiwer Herrgottsblieschen, geff eis speck an iebessen…”. Traditionally, the song asked for ‘bacon and peas’, but the tradition has evolved over time, and today people usually give the children sweets and money.
