Details: TalentLAB for Emerging Artists in Luxembourg

The Théatre des Capucins and the Théatre du Centaure, both in Luxembourg city centre, will be hosting the first edition of TalentLAB #16 from 10-19 June 2016.

An initiative of the Théatres de la Ville de Luxembourg, the event will comprise ten days of shows, meetings, masterclasses, round tables and exchanges of ideas, with the objective of finding a formula to better guide and support emerging talent in Luxembourg. A number of professional artists (from France, Belgium, Germany, Sweden and the UK, as well as Luxembourg) covering various complementary disciplines will all be involved in the project, including dance, choreography, set design, direction, writing, critique.

PROGRAMME

- Fri 10 June @ 20:00 @ Grand Theatre: Compania Sharon Fridman - Freefall (with 6 dancers plus 14 local non-professional dancers) (EN): In the same way that a pool of still water resists plunging into a waterfall until the thrust of the current propels it forward, so too does the individual resist letting go. Free Fall explores the notion of survival and the notion that we gain strength quite simply from falling and picking ourselves up again. With six principal dancers and a group of local artists, artistic director and choreographer Sharon Fridman explores how a group can facilitate this fall, serving as a source of encouragement and support so that individuals can find freedom, entrusting themselves to their own nature. Only by falling and resurrecting does one gain the strength to face challenges and take risks.

This is a physical, exercise-based workshop.

As part of the performance of Beyond Caring at the Grand Théâtre on 16 June 2016 at 20:00. Devising techniques from the dramaturgy of everyday life The workshop will focus on devising techniques from the dramaturgy of everyday life. Building on approaches used in Beyond Caring (National Theatre) Alexander Zeldin will work from source material from the participants’ daily experience of work... The thematic focus of the workshop will be on using theatre to interrogate the experience of being young and without work, or in precarious work, living in a crisis. He will also work from some set materials given beforehand, which will take the form of a documentary film, The Hermits, about a group of men living in emergency hostel accommodation during winter. Furthermore, the workshop will work on «writing on performers» which is to say creating a play from who and what each actor carries within them...

- Wed 15 June @ 10:00 @ Théatre des Capucins: Table Ronde sur l'Emergence (FR)

- Wed 15 June @ 20:00 @ Grand Theatre: TalentLAB #DANCE (EN/FR): Work(s) in progress by Simone Mousset and Jill Crovisier; Mentor: Koen Augustijnen; Introduction and feedback discussion after the performance. Koen Augustijnen has been working closely with Les Ballets C de la B since 1991, initially as a dancer in performances staged by Alain Platel. Apart from Les Ballets C de la B he often joins forces with theatre companies. As with Ivo Van Hove (Toneelgroep Amsterdam), Toneelgezelschap STAN and Chokri ben Chika to name but a few. At the moment Koen is working on the collaborative project Beytna in Lebanon, co-produced by the Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg.

- Thu 16 June @ 20:00 @ Grand Theatre: Beyond Caring (EN). By Alexander Zeldin, written through devising with the company; Followed by a post-show discussion. Four people arrive to work the night shift in a meat factory. They meet for the first time. They are employed as cleaners, by a temp agency. They are all on zero-hours contracts. Every shift, they clean. Every four hours, they take a break. They drink tea or coffee together. They read magazines. They chat. As it gets light, they go home, or to another job. The cycle goes on. And on. Strangers. Until something stirs, until isolated people get too close to one another, too fast. Alexander Zeldin’s brutally honest and darkly humorous play, written through devising with the company, exposes stories of an invisible class.
