Details: In addition to 2016 being the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare, it is also the 400th anniversary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes, generally regarded as the greatest writer in the Spanish language (on 22 April).

In Luxembourg, the Abbaye de Neumünster is putting on a show about Don Quixote (La Historia del Cautivo), produced by Quatricinia and the Abbaye de Neumünster, which takes place in the Abbaye (Salle Robert Krieps) on 21 and 22 April 2016 (in Spanish, with French subtitles).

Synopsis: Continuing their many adventures, Don Quixote and Sancho Panza stay in a hostel where a prisoner who has escaped from a Moorish prison, has arrived. After dinner, he tells his story that leads us from Italy to Flanders, the Battle of Lepanto to his captivity in Algiers, where he met the beautiful Zoraida. The History of the Captive is a story that mixes reality and fiction, Miguel de Cervantes who himself traveled to Italy, participated in the Battle of Lepanto and was imprisoned in Algiers.

The show, directed by May Sánchez, combines music, literature and theatre. Spanish music, Italian, French and traditional Mediterranean melodies run throughout history, interpreted by singer June Telletxea and Quatricinia together on instruments from the time of Cervantes. The text is composed of fragments taken from The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote of La Mancha.

Quatricinia is an early music chamber ensemble and was founded in 2012 by four musicians who live in Luxembourg. It has performed mainly in this country, playing for, among others, the British and the Spanish Embassies and accompanying vocal ensembles like Intermedii. It has also organised pedagogical projects for different schools in Luxembourg such as St. George’s International School and the ISL. In 2014, Quatricinia produced “La Tromba – Eine Geschichte der Trompete”, performed for the Luxembourgish trumpet’s association Trombuco’s festival “Trumpet Days“ in Dudelange. In 2016, already established as non-profit organisation, Quatricinia, a.s.b.l. is co-producing two major projects that will be performed in the Abbey de Neumünster: from 21 to 23 April: The Tempest and La Historia del Cautivo, in commemoration of the deaths of William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes.
