Details: 120 skaters from 26 different countries will be gathering in Luxembourg from 11 to 13 March 2016 to take part in the annual Coupe du Printemps.
Organised each year by the Union Luxembourgeoise de Patinage (ULP) and the Club Hiversport-Luxembourg Patinage, the Coupe du Printemps brings together skaters from all across the world in Kockelscheuer to compete in Novice to Senior categories for their chance at a position on the winner's podium.
The skaters will be coming from global, European and national backgrounds, with Mara Wagner, Chloé Villedey, Gemma Marshall, Tereza Kravalova and Fleur Maxwell all competing on behalf of the Grand Duchy. Big international names from the world of figure skating will also be getting into the spirit of things, including Japan's Takahito Mura and Rin Nitaya, 5th place winner at the 4 Continents Championships and 2nd prize holder at the Torun Junior Grand Prix, respectively; Swedish European Championships competitor and winner of the last Coupe du Printemps, Joshi Helgesson; and Sweden's Alexander Majorev, who finished 14th at the Sotchi Olympic Games.
The Coupe du Printemps also represents a platform for up-and-coming young skating stars such as 11-year-old Stephen Gogolev, who despite his tender age is capable of doing what his coach, Brian Orser, has termed a "gorgeous" and "sweet" triple Axel and quadruple Salchow. Himself a double silver Olympic medallist, Orser also coaches 2014 Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu and quadruple European champion and 2015 World champion, Javier Fernandes.
The competition will be closed with a Gala from 18:00 on Sunday 13 March 2016, which in turn will be followed by a cocktail on the ice, during which all competitors, sponsors, media and figure skating enthusiasts will be able to mix and mingle. Sunday evening will represent an opportunity for both Luxembourgish and foreign skaters to demonstrate their talents in a free programme and celebrate the three days of competition.
