On Wednesday 13 January 2016, several organisations and associations in Luxembourg will be holding a demonstration of solidarity with Ashraf Fayadh, the Palestinian poet who was sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia in November 2015 for apostasy and who risks being beheaded unless global intervention is enforced.
The Printemps des Poètes-Luxembourg, the Committee for a Just Peace in the Middle East, Amnesty International Luxembourg, neimënster and Kulturfabrik have joined forces to demonstrate against this sentencing, on the day before 14 January which has been declared a day of solidarity for Ashraf Fayadh. Big voices and young authors from Luxembourg will gather to follow in the footsteps of poets from around the world who have stepped up to show their solidarity with the 35-year-old poet, who has previously been active in 'Edge of Arabia', the British-Arabian arts organisation.
The evening will begin at 19:00, and will feature poem readings accompanied by Naser Halayqa on the oud. The event will take place at neimënster.
