Details: The Salon Top Sport will take place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September 2015 at d'Coque in Luxembourg-Kirchberg, from 10:00 - 18:00 both days.

The event is being organised withing the auspices of the European Commission's European Week of Sports held under the patronage of Luxembourg Sports Minister Romain Schneider. It will feature a total of 32 sports federations and 40 private providers that will provide an insight into a variety of sports.

Particular emphasis is being placed on the design and organisation of this major event to include a wide a range of activities involving sports enthusiasts.

Sporting activity has stagnated, according to recent findings in the European Union; in some Member States it is even understood to be clearly in decline: according to a Euro barometer, 59% of EU citizens rarely or never participate in Sport. As a result, the health and welfare of citizens suffer, which in turn leads to higher health care costs and less productivity and resilience in the labour market.

To counteract this trend, the European Commission unveiled the European Week of Sport in June 2014 by the then European Commissioner for Sport, Androulla Vassiliou. Run under the slogan "#BeActive", the action will involve all EU member states for the first time this September, with the aim of making sport and physical activity for people of all ages attractive, regardless of personal fitness levels.

Luxembourg's Top Sports Salon has nominated 4 Ambassadors for the event: Jenny Warling (Martial Arts, Karate), Bob Bertemes (Athletics), Sylvia Spliks (Special Olympics) and Luciano Fratini (Paralympic Committee Luxembourg).

The Luxembourg event is being held in a family atmosphere, with attendees encouraged to try one of a number of sports on offer, e.g.: Basketball practice throws, Sprint tests, training sessions with a Volley-ball machine, martial arts performances, lectures on sports themes, live interviews with professional athletes and many more interesting programme. There will even be advice for toddlers aged from 0-3 years.
