Details: The Casino Luxembourg contenporary art museum has announced a homage to Franz Liszt, entitled "Phantom Rhythm?" on Saturday 19 July at 19:00.
It includes works by Igor Iofe, Noriko Koide, Gunther Schuller, Ton de Leeuw, Lyle Mays, Betsy Jolas, Vinko Globokar and Monsheng Wai, and the Joint Venture concert.
Since the formation of the percussion duo Joint Venture - Rachel Xi Zhang (China) and Laurent Warnier (Luxembourg) in 2007, the collaboration between the two musicians reflects a blend of cultural and musical influences.
From highly contrasting backgrounds, Zhang and Warnier have found common ground with percussion, where they melted their individual ideologies to form the single international duo they are today.
Joint Venture won the Bernard Haitink Award at the 2009-2011 edition of the Vriendenkrans contest in Amsterdam. The duo was given a tour of nine concerts in large halls of the Netherlands, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and Muziekgebouw Eindhoven; In addition, the duo received a scholarship from Bernard Haitink Fund.
The two musicians have recently toured China and the Netherlands. In China, Joint Venture played in venues such as the National Centre for Performing Arts in Beijing and the Shenzhen Symphony Auditorium, besides recitals in many conservatories. During the summer of 2010, they were invited by the Ministry of Culture of Luxembourg to play the Luxembourg Pavilion of the Shanghai World Expo. In the Netherlands, Rachel Xi Zhang and Laurent Warnier performed at the Big Bang International Percussion Festival, playing the music of composer Steve Reich and collaborating with choreographer Dutch-Brazilian Ederson Xavier.
The duo is constantly striving to contribute to the field of contemporary music, and has created new compositions written for them by the Japanese Yu Oda, Dutch Fred Momotenko and Luxembourg Pascal Schumacher.
