The Embassy of Japan in Luxembourg will host two events dedicated to the history of the kimono, titled “Between Tradition and Modernity”, on Saturday 31 January 2026 at the Centre Culturel Cents in Luxembourg-Cents.

According to the Embassy, the event will feature Chiaki Watanabe and Aya Konno - experts from Japan's "Sense of Beauty" organisation - who will introduce the history of the kimono, detail the behind-the-scenes process of its creation and shed light on the realities and challenges faced by artisans.

The talk will include an exploration of the modern “kimono dress” and Sanae Kagamida, a kimono master based in Luxembourg, will demonstrate how a traditional kimono is worn and tied. 

Attendees will also have the opportunity to try on both a traditional kimono and a modern kimono.

Two sessions are planned - at 10:00 and 14:00 - each with a duration of 90 minutes. Attendance is free however registration is required.
