Details:
The Ensemble Vocal du Luxembourg (EVL) is putting on concerts presenting Brahms' German Requiem, on Saturday 19 October 2024 at 20:00 at Eglise Notre-Dame de l'Assomption in Bettembourg and on Sunday 20 October 2024 at 17:00 at Eglise décanale Saints Pierre et Paul in Wiltz.
This work, rarely performed in Luxembourg, is distinguished by its profound treatment of the theme of death and the use of non-liturgical texts. Brahms' complex composition offers a unique perspective on life and death.
The public is invited to discover a new perspective on this masterpiece in J. Linckelmann's arrangement for chamber orchestra, under the direction of Matthias Rajczyk.
The EVL will be accompanied by an instrumental ensemble that brings together musicians from the Greater Region. These include the soloist, German soprano Gerlinde Sämann, and Canadian/British/Luxembourgish singer David John Pike, who will take on the baritone part. The latter acts in this work as both a reflective narrator and a preacher, in his powerful emotional and intellectual confrontation with life, death and eternity.
