Nature Park Our will present the Night Light Experience, an event organised on Saturday 22 July 2023 from 18:00 to midnight in Parc Hosingen.
This event aims to draw visitors’ attention to the beauty of the starry night sky and nightscape as well as to nocturnal animals.
To ensure that the sky is as dark as possible that evening and that it is not influenced by other light sources, the lights in Parc Hosingen will be switched off for the duration of the event. A few red-light sources will provide on-site lighting to avoid any interference with stargazing.
Thematic workshops are planned, such as tinkering with the world’s smallest flashlight or making candles. The mobile planetarium of Luxembourg’s National Museum of Natural History (Naturmusée) can be visited on site. In addition, professional astronomers will provide an opportunity to observe the sun and stars. Visitors will be able to learn about the different constellations on guided star treks.
"Ecoacoustics - soundscapes in the dark" is an interactive workshop which will be presented for the first time in Luxembourg. Moreover, a sound installation on the noises of the night, conferences and "soundwalks" will also be available to visitors. The interactive exhibition "Insects - superheroes in danger" can also be visited. This is a traveling exhibition developed by the three Luxembourg nature parks in collaboration with the National Museum of Natural History and it can be borrowed by schools throughout the Grand Duchy.
The workshops are offered in German and/or Luxembourgish.
