Details:
The New World Theatre Club (NWTC) is putting on a production of "Immaculate" by Oliver Lansley with three evening performances on Thursday 30 November, Friday 1 and Saturday 2 December 2023 (originally scheduled to be performed the previous weekend), and one matinee on Sunday 3 December.
A comedy first seen at the Edinburgh Festival! A laugh-out-loud variation of the virgin birth in which a woman finds her life spiralling with confusion when she wakes up one morning unaccountably pregnant. And to make matters worse, Angel Gabriel and Lucifer turn up
Immaculate is a dark comedy written by Oliver Lansley – The play takes us on the whirlwind journey of Mia, a part-time dominatrix. After deciphering the code of a home pregnancy stick, she confirms that the large bump on her stomach is in fact a baby, but not having had sex in over a year, is perplexed as to whose it is and how it got there. Her ex-boyfriend, an angel, the devil and a hopelessly eager admirer join the story; continually increasing the farcicality of the plot in an attempt to illuminate the situation. With a modern-day twist this play comedically challenges the age-old question-begging doctrinal elements. This is a high energy, fast paced comedy which messes around with the traditional concept of chorus and uses soliloquy to drive the plot. The entire play is set in Mia’s living room with the exception of one flashback scene which takes us very briefly into a bar/nightclub.
