In its latest report, STATEC confirmed that salaried employment increased by 0.6% in the fourth quarter of 2020; over one year, this represents an increase of 1.6%.

After the strong recovery of the labour market in the third quarter of 2020, salaried employment increased by just 0.6% in the fourth quarter. Once again, specialised activities and support services showed the strongest quarterly growth with an increase of 1.5% compared to the third quarter of 2020.

More specifically, administration and other public services (up 5.0% over one year) and construction activities (up 3.5%) were the sectors that fared best.

On the other hand, the number of salaried employees dropped in the industry sector (down 0.3% over one quarter), as well as in the commercial, transport, accommodation and restaurant industries (down 0.1%). In industry, these numbers have consistently dropped over the past three quarters.

Compared to the previous quarter, the number of cross-border workers increased by 0.9%, whilst the number of resident employees rose by 0.3%.
