The number of jobseekers registered with the ADEM employment agency in Luxembourg has increased by 2.7% over one year.

As of 31 July 2019, the number of available jobseekers registered with the ADEM was 15,668. Over one year, this represents an increase of 406 individuals, or 2.7%. SOn the other hand, the number of available non-resident jobseekers registered with the ADEM was 2,457 at the end of July 2019, a decrease of 7.9% compared to July 2018.

Over the course of July 2019, the ADEM opened 2,605 new applications from resident jobseekers, an increase of 15.1% compared to the previous year. In addition, the agency opened 473 new applications from non-resident jobseekers, which represents an increase of 124% over one year. In parallel, the number of closed applications rose. These increases can be explained by a facilitated registration procedure, in place since the end of 2018.

In addition, the total number of beneficiaries of employment benefits in Luxembourg was 4,044 at the end of last month. Over one year, this represents a drop of 127 people, or 3.0%.

During the month of July 2019, employers reported 3,914 vacancies to ADEM, which equated to 302 or 8.4% more posts than in July 2018.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate calculated by STATEC remained stable at 5.5%.
