Luxembourg Airport recently reached a historic milestone, welcoming its 5 millionth passenger (within a calendar year) for the first time in its history.

To mark this achievement, the airport hosted a vibrant celebration on Friday 20 December 2024, with festivities that engaged passengers throughout the day.

The 5 millionth passenger, arriving on flight LG536 from Bari, Italy, at 12:00, was greeted with cheers and excitement as they entered the festive atmosphere at Luxembourg Airport. To mark this historic milestone, the lucky traveler was treated to a unique experience, receiving a special gift package designed to enhance their journey. This included a €500 shopping voucher for the Aelia Duty-Free shop, a €100 dining voucher for the renowned Oberweis Restaurant at the airport, and a €250 parking voucher for www.airportparking.lu. To top off the celebration, Luxair, Luxembourg's home carrier, added a €500 flight voucher, making the occasion unforgettable.

Throughout the day, travellers flying to and from Luxembourg were treated to a series of special surprises as a thank you for choosing the airport. These included gourmet snacks, fun gadgets and exclusive lanyards and cotton bags. An Instagram photo spot was also set up in the terminal, offering passengers the opportunity to capture the moment and share their experience with friends and family.

Alexander Flassak, CEO of lux-Airport, commented on the milestone: "Reaching 5 million passengers this year is a remarkable achievement for Luxembourg Airport, and we could not have done it without the dedication and hard work of our airport staff, our airline partners, and everyone who helps make the airport experience seamless for our travellers. We are incredibly grateful to our passengers for choosing Luxembourg Airport as their gateway to more than 120 direct destinations."

This milestone is a testament to the airport's resilience and its remarkable recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the past year, Luxembourg Airport has experienced strong, double-digit growth, demonstrating the continued demand for air travel from Luxembourg and the Greater Region.

Looking to the future, lux-Airport remains committed to enhancing the passenger experience by refining operational processes and improving customer services. Exciting developments are underway, including the long-term expansion plans that will see the opening of the Skypark Business Center in 2025. This new development will play a crucial role in supporting the airport’s growing capacity and ensuring that Luxembourg Airport continues to provide an exceptional, seamless travel experience for both passengers and businesses. lux-Airport is excited about the future and looks forward to continuing to serve its passengers with a high-quality experience in the years to come.
