Nuit des Lampions Brings Light & Music to Wiltz

On Saturday 19 September 2026, socio-cultural organisation COOPERATIONS Asbl organised the latest edition of the Nuit des Lampions in Wiltz, transforming the Jardin de Wiltz and surrounding Gruberbeerig quarter with lanterns, light installations, music and live performances.

This year’s edition was held from 17:00 until 02:00 attracting around 3,500 visitors of all ages.

First launched in 2007 as part of the European Capital of Culture programme, the Nuit des Lampions has since developed into one of the recurring cultural events in northern Luxembourg. From 2026, the festival is being held every two years.

The open-air cultural programme combined light installations, music, street theatre, circus and other performances. Among the attractions were Compagnie Transe Express' giant dolls, which moved through the festival to the rhythm of drums, as well as the maritime-themed L'Imaginarium du Capitein Gustav II. 

One of the most impressive displays was the jungle-like setting in the centre of the park, where Hector the Bengal Tiger, Josephine the Hippo and the Dancing Flamingos were placed among the surrounding trees and vegetation.

Among other performances were also Circus performer Jonn Happi, while the musical programme featured Ão, COLLIGNON, Josy Basar, Kermesz à l'Est and Kazdoura, with the atmosphere varying depending on the location and time of the evening. 

While parts of the garden retained a calm, almost fairytale-like atmosphere, the concert areas held nothing back, with music playing and attendees dancing along.

Several members of the Luxembourg Government were also spotted among the festival visitors, including Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs Xavier Bettel, as well as Luxembourg’s Minister for Culture and Minister Delegate for Tourism Eric Thill.

The route through the illuminated grounds were marked by arrows, guiding the visitors largely in the same direction. Through the route, festival offered several food and drink stalls, as well as other facilities clearly signposted and easy to locate.

The festival atmosphere was also noticeable beyond the event grounds. Many restaurants and bars in the streets of Wiltz kept their doors open for visitors until late in the evening.

The next Nuit des Lampions is scheduled to take place in 2028.
