Luxembourg’s Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity and Naturpark Öewersauer have announced the Haute-Sûre Nature Park will host the Water Festival at Toodlermillen on Sunday 17 May, from 11:00 to 17:00.
Organised as part of European Natura 2000 Day, the event highlights the protected sites within the Natura 2000 network and their essential role in preserving biodiversity and natural habitats.
Open to everyone, the event offers a varied programme centred on water, a vital resource at the crossroads of environmental, climate and territorial issues. Families, children and all interested persons will be able to enjoy educational and recreational activities, thematic stands and events showcasing local initiatives and sustainable practices.
The day will include:
• the “Roadshow Take Off” – Science Challenge Show;
• guided visits to the SIDEN pumping station;
• a meditation session: imaginary journey on water;
• a presentation on the management of the reservoir lake.
A mini-raft race on the Sûre will bring the day to a close and children will have the opportunity to build their own small raft on site before entering it into the competition. Numerous prizes will be available to win.
At the heart of the event, the Natura 2000 steering committees (COPIL), together with their regional partners, will present their concrete actions in favour of protecting species and natural environments. An interactive stand will enable visitors to discover how the management of Natura 2000 sites contributes to balancing nature conservation, agriculture, tourism and adaptation to climate change.
The official opening ceremony will take place at 11:15 in the presence of Luxembourg’s Minister of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, Serge Wilmes, and Minister of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture, Martine Hansen.
Admission is free.
