With the end-of-year festivities getting underway, Chronicle.lu is compiling a series of articles exploring some of the Christmas markets taking place across the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
While major events such as the markets in Luxembourg City and Esch-sur-Alzette run for several weeks, many smaller yet equally charming local markets open for just one day or a single weekend.
Next up is the "Veiner Krëstmoort", held in the Vic Abens Square in Vianden on Saturday 29 November 2025 - just ahead of the First Advent Sunday. The festive event ran from 14:00 to 20:00 and featured concerts by Veiner Musik and Fifty-Fifty (Henri "Heng" Schammel), as well as a visit from "Kleeschen" (Saint Nicholas) and a Paw Patrol show for children.
Throughout the afternoon, local clubs operated about ten different stands offering warming dishes such as Flammkuchen, soup and grilled meat, alongside drinks including mulled wine and mulled mead. Visitors could also browse handmade crafts and locally produced items such as honey and soap. Most stands accepted card/Payconiq payments; some were cash only.
A large Christmas tree stood in the centre of the square, facing the stage where musicians performed. People of all ages, including families with children (and even dogs), gathered to enjoy the festive spirit.
Although smaller than Vianden's major annual events, such as the medieval festival or nut market, the "Krëstmoort" offered a cosy and charming atmosphere, even in the rain (with covered areas providing some shelter).
