On Thursday 2 October 2025, Chronicle.lu was invited by the Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO) to participate in the launch of its newest guided tour “Under the Sign of the Crown: Discovering the Monarchs of Luxembourg”.

Designed to explore “the living history of Luxembourg’s monarchy throughout the capital”, the tour is described by the LCTO as “a unique journey through the capital which dives into the fascinating world of the Nassau dynasty” and invites participants to “discover why Luxembourg is the world’s only Grand Duchy and how its monarchy has endured through the ages”.

The tour, led by Renée Noesen, official guide at the LCTO, began on Place Guillaume II and took in a number of historical sites across Luxembourg-Ville, including the Pont Adolphe (Adolphe bridge), the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Congregation Church (Protestant Trinity Church), the statue of Grand Duchess Charlotte on Place Clairefontaine, the Chamber of Deputies and the Grand Ducal Palace.

Ms Noesen provided an overview of each location, as well as historical and anecdotal information about the history and relevance of the stops included on the tour.

Upon its conclusion, Chronicle.lu talked to Jhonny Fernandes, Sales and Operations Support at LCTO about the tour and the significance of its launch, in relation to the accession to the throne of Grand Duke Guillaume on Friday 3 October. He said: “It is a very important date, the last [accession] was 25 years ago. We are all very excited and very happy to have these celebrations, so we decided to have this tour to talk about it, to talk about the dynasty.”

He added: “There is a lot of history but there are also a lot of symbols spread around the city. You can see it in the monuments, you can see it in trees, the nature elements and the statues. There are so many elements in the city that connect to the dynasty and the monarchy. For us it was important to show that, so that people who maybe walk past these symbols every day can have more information about them.”

The duration of the tour is approximately two hours.

The cost is €18 for adults, €14.50 for students and seniors, €9 for children (ages four to twelve) and is free for children under the age of four.
