The Luxembourg Museum Days 2025 will take place on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 May, offering the public the opportunity to explore 38 museums across the free of charge.
Inspired by International Museum Day, this open doors weekend will include access to permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as a programme featuring creative workshops, special guided tours, concerts, performances and family-friendly activities.
Organised by ICOM Luxembourg (the Luxembourg National Committee of the International Council of Museums), in collaboration with participating member museums and with support from Enovos, the event continues to grow in reach and popularity. According to organisers, the 2024 edition saw a record-breaking 22,271 visits, the highest attendance since its inception 28 years ago.
Each year, International Museum Day (held on 18 May since 1977) brings together cultural institutions around a central theme. For 2025, the focus is “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities”, encouraging reflection on how museums can respond to ongoing social, technological and environmental changes.
In connection with this theme, ICOM Luxembourg has launched a new video portrait series showcasing participating institutions. These short clips aim to highlight the diversity of the country’s museum landscape and feature, among others, the Konschthal in Esch-sur-Alzette, the Slate Museum in Haut-Martelange, Casino Luxembourg in Luxembourg-Ville, the Thillenvogtei Museum in Rindschleiden and the new Energy Museum in Beckerich. The full video series is available at https://www.luxembourgmuseumdays.lu/
The complete list of participating museums – which also includes Mudam Luxembourg, Lëtzebuerg City Museum, Musée Dräi Eechelen, Natur Musée (National Museum of Natural History), Musée National de la Résistance and The Family of Man exhibition in Clervaux – can be found on the official event website, along with a map and full programme.
Note that some activities will require prior reservation with the participating museums.
The Luxembourg Museum Days will take place on 17 and 18 May from 10:00 to 18:00. Admission is free for all.
