On Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 April 2025, Luxembourg’s national Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Convention, LuxCon, took place at the Forum Geesseknäppchen in Luxembourg-Merl, both indoor and outdoor, with a giant dinosaur eclipsing the myriads of tents erected for the event.
Many attendees had dress up for the occasion, as one of their comic book heroes or characters from Star Wars, etc.
The annual fantasy and science fiction convention event, organised by the Science Fiction & Fantasy Society Luxembourg, included talks, discussions and readings, as well as exhibitions from artists, writers and artisans. Activities included geek karaoke, game demonstrations and geek quizzes. Saturday’s events included workshops on “Create your own Pool noodle Lightsabre” and “Epic Stage Sword fighting”. Speakers on Saturday included Ursula Vernon, Alasdair Stuart, Audrey Martin: “Horrible Horror that Horrifies” and Muller Sam: “The Basics of 3D Printing”, among many others.
Sunday’s highlights included the Cosplay contests. Other activities on Sunday included “How to Game Design”, “Cozy Horror” and a charity auction.
Chronicle.lu had the opportunity to speak with Gérard Kraus, Coordinator of LuxCon, who explained that LuxCon was initially created in 1995 as a means to book space to play the card game, Magic Gathering. This evolved into a science fiction and fantasy society with members participating in role-playing games, watching anime and going to the cinema to see sci-fi and fantasy films, among other activities. Gérard Kraus added that in 2014 the idea for LuxCon, as a multimedia festival where every fan of literature, film, TV, games, etc., could meet people and celebrate together, came about. A thousand people attended the first event and numbers have grown each year to the current 5,000 attendees.
