The QuattroPole network of cities has announced its second cross-border Hackathon, set to take place on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 May 2025.
The event will bring together the cities of Luxembourg, Metz (France), Saarbrücken and Trier (both in Germany), with a focus on the transformation of city centres.
"Building on the success" of its inaugural Hackathon in 2023, the event will take place for a second time this May. The theme of the event will build upon the discussions held at the first QuattroPole Economic Forum, which took place on 7 November 2024 in Saarbrücken. The transformation of city centres took centre stage, with four key thematic pillars identified: the management of vacant commercial units, retail trade, digitalisation of city centres and tourism strategy.
This is the theme that the QuattroPole hackathon 2025 will focus on, offering participants an ambitious challenge with a €3,000 prize. To further highlight various initiatives, each city will also have the opportunity to reward a "Coup de cœur" project with a €1,000 prize. In total, five teams will be honoured, according to the organisers.
According to the press release, the event will take place from 14:00 on Friday 16 May to 19:00 on Saturday 17 May 2025. The QuattroPole Hackathon is open to all, with no prior knowledge required. However, proficiency in English may be an asset.
Participants will be able to join the Hackathon from one of the four partner locations: Luxembourg-City Incubator in Luxembourg, Maison de l'Innovation, de l'Entrepreneuriat, des Ecoles et de l'Université in Metz, East Side Fab in Saarbrücken and Trier Galerie in Trier.
“Crossing the borders between Germany, Luxembourg and France, QuattroPole symbolises a cross-border region that boasts significant historical, economic and cultural diversity, as well as multilingualism experienced daily. Luxembourg, Metz, Saarbrücken and Trier join efforts to increase their visibility on the European stage and combine their expertise in innovative projects. Cooperation and the implementation of joint projects aim to generate synergies between the cities and enhance the region's economic attractiveness,” stated QuattroPole.
