Christmas markets across the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg have heralded the arrival of the festive season.

The Winterlights festival, launched on Friday 22 November 2024, will run in Luxembourg City until Wednesday 1 January 2025, with Christmas markets in four locations: Place d'Armes (with 38 chalets); Place de la Constitution (41 chalets); Place de Paris; the “Wanterpark” in Kinnekswiss park (includes an ice rink). In addition, “Winterkids" in Place Guillaume II is aimed at children and parents. Beyond Luxembourg’s capital, there are many other Christmas markets taking place on various dates; some have already passed but there are several others to which visitors can look forward. Here is a selection of upcoming festivities across the country.

In Dudelange, the Winter Market is open from Saturday 23 November until Sunday 15 December 2024 on Place Am Duerf. A second, more traditional Christmas market will take place on Place de l’Hôtel de Ville from Friday 6 until Sunday 15 December 2024. The Pétange Christmas Market is taking place from Thursday 28 November to Sunday 1 December 2024 on Place John F. Kennedy. Visitors can expect hot and cold drinks as well as food, plus various stands from local exhibitors. Weekday opening times are 17:00-22:00; it is also open 11:00-22:00 at weekends. The Christmas market in Esch-sur-Alzette will take place on Place de l'Hôtel de Ville from Friday 29 until Sunday 22 December 2024. The Differdange Christmas Market will take place from Friday 29 November to Sunday 22 December 2024 on Place du Marché. This is the oldest Christmas market in Luxembourg and will include chalets, an ice rink and concerts, as well as decorative objects, crafts and culinary treats. The Bettembourg Christmas Market will take place from Friday 29 November to Sunday 1 December 2024 in the courtyard of Bettembourg Castle. The Slate Museum in Haut-Martelange is hosting a Christmas market on Friday 29 November from 19:00-23:00 and on Saturday 30 November 2024 from 16:00-23:00. 60+ stands will be selling festive products, as well as seasonal food and drinks. The Christmas Village in Clervaux will be open on Friday 29 November from 16:00-21:00, on Saturday 30 November from 14:00-21:00 and on Sunday 1 December 2024 from 13:00-19:00. On Sunday 8 December, there will be a traditional Christmas market on Place du Marché and surrounding streets from 11:00-20:00. Mamer’s Christmas Market is taking place from Friday 29 November to Sunday 1 December and from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 December 2024. The Christmas market will be open on Fridays from 17:00-21:00 pm, Saturdays from 14:00-21:00 and Sundays from 13:00-20:00. A varied musical entertainment programme is on the agenda. On Saturday 30 November 2024, Vianden will host its Christmas market in Place Vic Abens, from 14:00-20:00. Local associations will offer treats, while children can take part in craft workshops and other activities. In Remich, the Christmas market with a synthetic ice skating rink is taking place on Saturday 30 November and Sunday 1 December 2024 in the car park of the open-air pool. St Nicholas will arrive by boat on Sunday 1 December at 15:00. A selection of gifts from local and regional artists will be available. The Christmas market in Hesperange will take place within the “Winterflair” programme which runs from Saturday 16 November to Sunday 23 February 2025. The Christmas Market is open on Sunday 1, Saturday 7, Sunday 8 and Saturday 14 December from 15:00-21:00 and on Sunday 15 December from 16:00-21:00. The 23rd edition of Steinfort’s Christmas Market will be held from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 December and again from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 December 2024, in the park between the town hall and Villa Collart. The market will be open on Fridays 6 and 13 December from 18:00-23:00; on Saturdays 7 and 14 December from 16:00-23:00 and on Sundays 8 and 15 December from 15:00-21:00. Choirs, vocal ensembles and music groups will take to the park stage. Part of the profits from the market (featuring 30+ chalets) will go to charity. Strassen’s Christmas Market (Stroossener Chrëschtmaart) will take place on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 December 2024, from 16:00 until 22:00 in Parc Barblé. The market will have 25 chalets offering gifts, drink and food, including Christmas pastries and artisan confectionery, dumplings and “Käsespätzle” (cheese “spätzle”). Ettelbruck’s Christmas Market is set to take place on the Grand Rue from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 December 2024. The market is open 17:00-21:00 on the Friday, 12:00-21:00 on Saturday and 12:00-18:00 on Sunday. Various artists will showcase their skills on the Grand Rue and on Place Guillaume. In Diekirch, the Christmas market is taking place in the pedestrian zone from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 December 2024. Food, drinks, crafts and entertainment are on the agenda. Among several Christmas markets taking place in the Mullerthal region is the market in Echternach, which is being held from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 December 2024 on Place du Marché. The market will be open from 17:00-00:00 on the Friday, from 11:00-00:00 on the Saturday and from 11:00-20:00 on the Sunday.

Similarly, Larochette’s Christmas market is taking place on Place Bleech from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 December 2024. The market is open from 17:00-21:30 on the Friday, from 11:00-21:30 on the Saturday and from 11:00-18:00 on the Sunday.
