On Wednesday 11 August 2021, the Ville de Luxembourg unveiled details of their "mini-Schouberfouer" that is being held this year within the "D’Stad lieft" initiative due to restrictions around the reopening of the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This event has been branded "Fun um Glacis" and will run from Saturday 21 August to Sunday 12 September, with opening times between 11:00 and 23:00.
"Fun um Glacis"
The “Fun um Glacis” offers around fifteen attractions for thrill seekers (Alpina Bahn, Olympia Looping, Bayernkurve, Breakdance, Shaker's…), around twenty game stands and fairground gastronomy stands, as well as a number of rides for children: in total, 41 attractions, games and fairground gastronomies will await visitors on the Glacis field.
The full list of “Fun um Glacis” attractions is available online at https://summer.vdl.lu. The rides and attractions as well as the gastronomy will be operated according to the usual prices.
Lydie Polfer, Mayor of the Ville de Luxembourg, and Patrick Goldschmidt, alderman, presented practical information at a press conference today, as well as the public health approach that will apply to the event as part of the fight against the spread of COVID-19. Developed in consultation with the Department of Health, the health concept specifies the specific rules applicable to the event, alongside the health measures generally in force in public places.
To guarantee the safety of all those attending the event, two zones have been defined, each subject to specific measures: "zone A", comprising the rides and games, and "zone B", dedicated to gastronomy. The layout of the zones has been designed in such a way as to scatter attractions and establishments and to have large circulation areas, allowing for the respect of distances. In addition, in order to allow better management of the flow of visitors, the areas will be completely fenced: access for the public will be facilitated at the ends.
"Zone A" (rides and game stands): wearing a mask is compulsory
In "zone A", grouping together the thrill rides, children's rides and game stands, the following specific rules will apply:
• The permanent wearing of mouth-to-nose protection is compulsory throughout, in queues and on rides and attractions, except for children under 6 years of age.
• Hand sanitisation is mandatory before each round of the ride / attraction / game.
• The intake and consumption of food (including drinks) in zone A is prohibited.
The public has free access (without CovidCheck) to zone A via one of the 5 access points (A1-A5).
"Zone B" (catering): CovidCheck
“Zone B”, dedicated exclusively to catering, will operate under the CovidCheck regime: this space will therefore only be accessible to visitors with a vaccination certificate, a negative COVID-19 test certificate or a recovery certificate.
Although a test station with a waiting area is available at the entrances to "zone B" to carry out a rapid test under surveillance, the Ville de Luxembourg has advised all visitors who do not have a vaccination certificate or a certificate of recovery, to come on site with a valid negative COVID-19 (PCR) test certificate in order to avoid any inconvenience and in particular waiting times. The control of certificates will be carried out by security agents at the 2 access points of "zone B" (B1 and B2). In order to facilitate access to zone B subject to CovidCheck, visitors are requested to go to one of the following 3 access lanes, depending on their situation:
• visitors with vaccination certificate, recovery certificate or negative COVID-19 test certificate
• visitors without a vaccination certificate, recovery certificate or negative COVID-19 test certificate
• visitors with a CovidCheck bracelet / wristband.
Any visitor who has passed the CovidCheck will obtain a bracelet which authorises their free movement on the site and which, in the event of leaving zone B, allows easier access when re-entering zone B during the same day.
Furthermore,
• all consumption of food or drink on the site must be done at the table;
• “take-away” sales are possible.
General rules and measures (zones A and B)
The following general measures will apply to "Fun um Glacis" (zones A and B):
• People with typical symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, etc.) are asked to stay at home and follow the recommendations of the Ministry of Health concerning suspected cases of COVID-19.
• The public must disinfect their hands before entering the site, before eating and after each visit to the sanitary facilities; disinfectant gel will be made available on the site and at each establishment.
• Barrier gestures must be observed (keep a safe distance from people who do not belong to the same household; cough or sneeze into the crook of the arm or into a handkerchief; avoid forming a group, etc.).
• Staff orders must be respected.
Note that the specific measures and health rules to be observed will be displayed in several languages at the different accesses and on the site. To ensure proper operation, security guards will circulate on the site (zones A and B) to ensure compliance with the provisions in place; in the event of non-compliance with the instructions, the persons concerned must leave the site. The number of people admitted to the site will not be limited; However, the Ville de Luxembourg reserves the right to temporarily close access to the site if necessary (too much visitor flow on busy days / times, etc.).
