The Luxembourg Center for Architecture (LUCA) has announced that it is organising two English-language events: a lecture by Ricardo Flores, architect and founder of Flores & Prats, next month and a study visit to the Bauhaus museums in Weimar and Dessau (Germany) in March 2020.

On Tuesday 12 November 2019, Ricardo Flores, founder of the Spanish architectural office Flores & Prats, will be giving a lecture on the topic "The discipline of the existing" at Carré in Luxembourg-Hollerich from 18:30. Flores & Prats is an architectural office dedicated to the confrontation of theory and academic practice with design and construction activity. They have worked in rehabilitation of old structures for new occupations, in the design of public spaces with neighbour's participation and in social housing and its capacity to create community.

Ricardo Flores' lecture will look at the case study of a former workers cooperative, built in Barcelona in 1924 and later abandoned for about 30 years. Rather than a sign of destruction, this cooperative symbolises the optimism of a new possible future: its rehabilitation transformed it into the new Sala Beckett Theatre and Drama Centre. The lecture will be given in English (no translation). Free entrance. Register at http://www.luca.lu/content/inscription-evenement?event_name="The%20discipline%20of%20the%20existing".

LUCA is also organising a study trip on the theme of the Bauhaus from 19 to 22 March 2020 in Weimar and Dessau, Germany. Participants will have the opportunity to visit the historical sites of the Bauhaus, discover the two new Bauhaus museums in Weimar and Dessau and immerse themselves in the life and work of the Bauhaus people in a unique and authentic setting. The guided tour will be in English. The provisional programme is available from https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/track?uri=urn%3Aaaid%3Ascds%3AUS%3A3257022f-ade5-488f-8e6d-fd81d2a6cec7.

As part of this tailor-made trip, participants will stay in the Elephant Hotel in Weimar and in the former Bauhaus workshop studios from 1926 in Dessau. The study trip costs €835 per person for a shared double room or €970 per person for a single room.

Interested persons should register no later than 2 December 2019 by downloading the registration form via the link above and returning it to LUCA via e-mail. For more information, contact Bastien Fréard via e-mail: b.freard@luca.lu or tel.: 427-555-52. Paces are limited to 20-25 people.
