On Wednesday 19 June 2024, Luxembourg's women's tennis team played Ireland in their third game of the European Group III at the Billie Jean King Cup tennis competition being played in Chisinau in Moldova.
On Monday, Luxembourg defeated Azerbaijan 3-0 and on Tuesday Luxembourg defeated Montenegro by the same score.
In the last Pool C game, on Wednesday morning, Luxembourg were no match for the strength of the Irish team, although Marie Weckerle did win the first set in her match.
Results:
- Luxembourg's Lucie Rabiot lost to Ireland's Sinead Lohan in two sets (4-6, 0-6).
- Luxembourg's Marie Weckerle lost to Ireland's Celine Simunyu in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 1-6).
- In the doubles, Luxembourg's Erna Brdarevic and Claudine Schaul lost to Ireland's Sarah Hawkshaw and Shauna Heffernan in two sets (1-6, 1-6).
Ireland go through to the next phase to play against Finland and Cyprus, to determine which country will gain promotion to Europe/Africa Group II in 2025.
Meanwhile, Luxembourg will play against Moldova and Armenia in the 4th - 6th place play-offs which will take place on Thursday and Friday.
