Luxembourg sent a men's tennis team to Bogota in Colombia this past weekend to compete in the Davis Cup World Group I play-offs.
On the first day of the play-offs, on Friday 2 February 2024, the Luxembourg team, captained by Gilles Müller, secured a 2:0 lead against Colombia.
This followed victories by Chris Rodesch and Alex Knaff in the singles: the former won the first match against Nicolas Mejia 7:6, 6:3 and the latter prevailed 6:4, 2:6, 6:4 in the second match against Adria Soriano Barrera.
On Saturday 3 February 2024, the Luxembourg Tennis Federation (FLT) did not manage to build on this success. In the doubles, Alex Knaff and Chris Rodesch lost to their opponents Nicolas Barrientos and Cristian Rodriguez, with an end score of 3:6, 7:6, 1:6.
In the singles, Alex Knaff was defeated by Nicolas Mejia 2:6, 3:6, whilst Chris Rodesch lost 3:6, 6:7 against Adria Soriano.
Colombia ultimately prevailed with 3:2 against Luxembourg. The latter thus missed out on promotion to World Group I.
In addition to Alex Knaff and Chris Rodesch, Captain Müller's team included Aaron Gil Garcia, Raphael Calzi and Gilles Kremer.
