For her part, world no. 275 Eleonora Molinaro (WTA doubles no. 516) paired up with Polish tennis player Katarzyna Piter (doubles 232) to play against US-Brazilian duo Hayley Carter (doubles 77) and Luisa Stefani (doubles 80). The match ended 6-0, 6-3 to Hayley Carter and Luisa Stefani.
Similarly, world no. 168 Mandy Minella (doubles 113) and her Swiss doubles partner Xenia Knoll (doubles 90) lost 2-6, 6-7 to Kaitlyn Christian (US; doubles 73) and Alexa Guarachi (Chile; doubles 65).
Other doubles matches on Thursday afternoon saw victories for Czech duo Kristyna Pliskova (doubles 63) and Renata Voracova (doubles 55) (6-1, 6-4) against the Netherlands' Lesley Kerkhove (doubles 166) and Bibiane Schoofs (doubles 130), and for US duo Coco Gauff (doubles 98) and Catherine Mcnally (doubles 88) (6-4, 6-4) against Anna Blinkova (Russia; doubles 52) and Miyu Kato (Japan; doubles 82).
In the singles matches, world no. 26 Julia Goerges (Germany), Monica Puig (Puerto Rico; no. 84), Anna Blinkova (Russia; no. 66), Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia; no. 63) and Antonia Lottner (Germany; no. 210) were Thursday's winners.
