On Tuesday 16 July 2024, Telindus, a Luxembourg-based provider of ICT and telecommunications solutions, announced the launch of Narrow Band-IoT (NB-IoT) throughout the Grand Duchy.
This new communication technology promises to revolutionise Internet of Things (IoT) applications, particularly in public services, construction and the medical sector, by connecting devices securely and reliably to automate many processes that currently require manual supervision or direct human involvement.
With the rise of connected objects and the diversity of applications linked to the IoT, communication protocols are becoming more diverse and specialised. As reported by Telindus, NB-IoT, a low-bandwidth wireless communication technology, is "radically" transforming the way connected objects communicate with their environment, combining low energy consumption with stable connectivity and affordable deployment costs.
"Thanks to Tango's extensive and reliable network, Telindus ensures complete and homogeneous NB-IoT coverage throughout Luxembourg. Every connected device, whether in urban or rural areas, can benefit from this technology," noted Gérard Hoffmann, CEO of Proximus Luxembourg.
Telindus added that its launch of NB-IoT is "fully in line" with Luxembourg's digital transformation drive. By facilitating the adoption of advanced IoT solutions, Telindus said it is helping enable businesses and public institutions to optimise their operations, reduce costs and improve customer service. This technological breakthrough is also believed to pave the way for innovative new applications in areas such as energy management, environmental monitoring, public safety and more.
