Luxembourg telecom operators POST Luxembourg and Tango have both introduced various measures to support Ukrainian refugees in the Grand Duchy.

POST Luxembourg

In order to facilitate and support the reception of refugees from Ukraine in the Grand Duchy, POST Luxembourg is offering free mobile subscriptions, as well as the provision, free of charge, of a bank account and payment card. These two actions are implemented in consultation with the National Reception Office (Office national de l'accueil - ONA). POST Luxembourg has also provided ONA with a number of premises and accommodation for refugees.

Refugees from Ukraine, equipped with their beneficiary of temporary protection certificate (issued by the Directorate of Immigration), can now go to any POST Telecom point of sale to avail of a free mobile subscription. This solidarity offer includes unlimited calls from Luxembourg to Ukraine, mobile internet and calls and SMS in Luxembourg.

Moreover, POST Finance has set up a simplified and accelerated procedure for opening a bank account for Ukrainian refugees. This offer also includes a V PAY payment card and unlimited withdrawals from all ATMs. To take advantage of this offer, persons concerned must contact the ONA in Luxembourg-Kirchberg (5 Rue Carlo Hemmer, L-1734) which centralises the requests and organises an appointment with a POST Finance adviser. This simplified procedure is based on existing cooperation between POST and the ONA, in place since 2016 for beneficiaries of international protection and now extended to beneficiaries of temporary protection. All administrative documents related to this procedure have been translated into the appropriate languages for this target group.

Already since the end of February 2022, POST Luxembourg has been offering free calls and SMS between the Grand Duchy and Ukraine to all of its customers affected by the Russia-Ukraine war. This measure, initially put in place until 31 March 2022, has been extended until 30 June 2022.

Tango

Tango has also mobilised to support Ukrainian refugees, in collaboration with the non-profit organisation LUkraine asbl.

Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, Tango has been offering unlimited calls and texts to and from Ukraine to allow people affected by the conflict to stay in touch with their loved ones. This action will run until the end of May 2022.

In order to be able to provide direct support to Ukrainian refugees who have arrived on Luxembourg in recent days, Tango has also decided to distribute 500 SIM cards through LUkraine asbl.

These free SIM cards will allow refugees not only to stay in touch with their relatives in Ukraine, but also to communicate in Luxembourg.
