POST Luxembourg has stated that, on New Year's Eve, its customers continued to increasingly use mobile internet to send greetings via smartphones; on the other hand, the use of SMS continues to decline.
On the two days of 31 December 2021 and 1 January 2022, the total number of text messages sent over the POST mobile network was 379,300, a decrease of more than 50% compared to the previous year.
An increasing number of people are using instant messaging and social networks to send their wishes to their relatives and friends, causing an increase in mobile Internet traffic: 165 terabytes of data were exchanged during these two days across all networks combined (2G, 3G, 4G and 5G), i.e. 21% more than a year ago.
