POST Luxembourg has announced that it is launching eSIM technology, the latest evolution of the SIM card, from 30 March 2020.
POST will make the eSIM technology available to the market at the end of this month. This new generation of SIM card differs from previous ones by its dematerialisation. Indeed, it is a chip directly integrated into the smartphone during manufacturing. POST will then activate customers' mobile telephony services directly on eSIM. This new technology will be available at POST Telecom points of sale when subscribing to a mobile plan for individuals and professionals.
One of the main advantages of eSIM is the possibility of being able to manage several plans on the same smartphone. Indeed, the eSIM can support several profiles, making it easier to associate several telephone numbers.
Cliff Konsbruck, POST Telecom Director, explained: "In addition to its simplified activation, eSIM allows our customers with several mobile numbers, a private and a professional for example, to use these two subscriptions on the same smartphone and therefore be reachable on both numbers”.
In the future, the range of devices with eSIM will be generalised and users will be able to take advantage of it on a tablet or any other connected object that has this technology.
Finally, the use of this new eSIM card is not only a technological advance, but also an environmental one. In line with its corporate social responsibility (CSR) concerns, POST has recognised that the gradual dematerialisation of SIM cards will reduce the use of plastic.
