On Friday 7 February 2025, a new global data study revealed Luxembourg to be ranked third of immigration destinations in 2025.
The study, conducted by financial services provider Remitly, assigned an “Immigration Index” score out of 100 to each of the 82 countries analysed. Luxembourg came in third place with an overall Immigration Index score of 55.7 out of 100 which was based on 24 factors including health quality and safety, digital connectivity, employment opportunities and suitability for families.
Iceland, Switzerland and Luxembourg were revealed as the top three countries to immigrate to in 2025. Fifteen of the top 25 countries are located in Europe, with Norway, Ireland, Denmark and the Netherlands also ranking in the top ten.
Iceland emerged as the top immigration hotspot. The study cited the country’s natural beauty, high happiness levels, environmental sustainability and strong wages as factors influencing its ranking of 58.4 out of 100, despite its high cost of living.
Switzerland scored 55.8 out of 100 as a result of higher than average salaries, economic stability, high levels of safety and scenic landscapes. Luxembourg, in third place, scored highly for factors including economic strength, happiness levels and a free public transport system.
Beyond Europe, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ranked in fifth spot (52.5 out of 100) and was revealed as the safest nation of all the countries analysed. The study made reference to its thriving job market and low unemployment rate. The UAE has a migrant population of 88% which was reported as an important consideration for people looking to move to and settle in a new country.
The United States ranked in seventh spot, scoring highly on factors such as cost of living and connectivity. Australia ranked tenth with a total score of 51.7 out of 100, while Singapore, Canada, Japan, United Kingdom and New Zealand all ranked in the top twenty.
