According to a new report by Icelandair, Luxembourg City ranked the fourth best city in the world for a “wellness workcation” for European remote workers.

The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a surge of remote work in Europe. The report noted that working from home has some perks, but that the lack of social interaction and daily monotony can be taxing. Workcations allow workers to travel to new places and work flexible hours without using their annual leave.

With this in mind, Iceland's airline Icelandair recently analysed over 100 of the world’s most prominent cities based on factors such as quality of life, Wi-Fi speed and happiness to uncover the best destinations for a wellness workcation this year.

Luxembourg City ranked fourth behind Vienna (Austria), Copenhagen (Denmark) and Amsterdam (Netherlands). Luxembourg had the second-highest reported quality of life, achieving an index score of 201.1/240. According to the report, Luxembourg’s greenery and medieval architecture make it a good destination for a remote retreat.

Other cities that made the top 10 were Helsinki (Finland), Valencia (Spain), Reykjavik (Iceland), Oslo (Norway), Madrid (Spain) and Zurich (Switzerland).

To find the best cities for a wellness workcation, Icelandair collated a list of 108 global cities and ranked them based on ten different factors: quality of life, safety, cost of living, health care, traffic commute, internet speed, average working hours, climate, pollution and happiness (income, social support, personal freedom, etc.).
