The "Nuit de Sport" known since its inception in 2009, has been a growing success, with 4,700 people participating in the 2013 edition last Saturday.

This fifth edition of the event included the participation of more than 20 towns, representing nearly one-fifth of the entire country, including Beckerich, Betzdorf, Dudelange, Esch-sur-Alzette, Fischbach, Larochette-Nommern, Grevenmacher, Hesperange, Koerich, Koetschette, Lultzhausen, Mondercange, Mondorf-les-Bains, Niederanven, Remich, Roeser, Schengen, Steinfort, Steinsel and Troisvierges, with the Lycée technique de Bonnevoie among the organisers. The initiative is of the National Youth Service and the Ministerial Department of Sports.

The event, which took place on Saturday from 16:00 to midnight, aimed to enable both young and old to discover a fun new way to participate in sports and find a taste for physical activities.

At the end of the evening, the organisers had totaled 4,700 participants. Approximately 200 original sports were proposed spread over thirty sites across the country. The activities were organised locally by youth clubs, sports associations and municipal services. They were supervised by experienced facilitators.

Aside from the more traditional sports, activities proposed in the "Sports Night" are characterised by their originality. These disciplines, be they unconventional or unfamiliar, may be adapted for the occasion. There was something for everyone. The municipalities in Hesperange and Schengen, for example, both showed specific versions of running: a maze to navigate in the dark, and relay torches. Other activities included sailing and kayaking tours, mountain biking, rock climbing and many more. All this took place in a festive atmosphere, often with concerts and other attractions.
