The Luxembourg Anti-Doping Agency (ALAD) has announced that on 21 February this year, it chaired a disciplinary board on the issue of alleged doping violations against professional tennis player Claudine Schaul.
As reflected in a drugs court case in which the defendant Claudine Schaul was involved, the use and trafficking of drugs could constitute violations of anti-doping rules (under sections 4.2 and 4.7 of the ALAD Anti-Doping Code). However, the anti-doping Disciplinary Board has subsequently considered the case of Claudine Schaul, originally scheduled for 19 April, and waited until the court case had finished before addressing the issue itself. The Disciplinary Board has now acquitted Claudine Schaul of anti-doping infringements.
The ALAD Board of Directors will now decide within 14 days whether to accept the judgment of the Disciplinary Board or whether to appeal to the Supreme Anti-Doping Council. The judgment will be forwarded to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the World Anti-Doping Agency, each of which can appeal.
