On Thursday 6 February 2025 at 19:00, the British film director Daniel Simpson will be in Luxembourg for a special screening of his 2021 film, Dry River (western, 101 mins); set in a rugged Mexican border village, this film intertwines themes of family, redemption and romance.

The screenplay for this film was written by Fe Valen; it was shot in Spain in autumn 2019 and stars Michael Moriarty (winner of a Golden Globe in 1979 for Holocaust; winner of a Primetime Emmy in 2002 for James Dean), Charlie Creed-Miles, Ann Mitchell, Peter Cosgrove and Joshua Dickinson.

Synopsis: Set in 1888 in the Old West, a family of renegades controls the only water source in a US-Mexican border town in the desert, ravaged by severe drought. However, when a stranger arrives to reclaim his father's land, a violent confrontation changes all of their lives forever. A promise of gold will bring hope, love, and death in equal measure.

The screening at Ciné Utopia in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg will be followed by a Q&A with the director, Daniel Simpson, by the organiser of the British & Irish Film Festival Luxembourg, Geoff Thompson.
