On Saturday 12 October 2024, JBF Toys and Trains opened its new store in Luxembourg-Gare (83 Rue de Strasbourg).

JBF Toys and Trains was founded in September 2022 as an initiative from Robert van den Oord and Sanne van den Oord – Boersma. Initially started as webshop, requests soon started to open up from clients. From March 2023 the store was getting in full swing with more and more ideas to also expand for events including birthday parties.

According to Robert and Sanne, since the initial 80m2 retail space on Route d'Esch - which they had had for two years- was not sufficient anymore (to service the clients as they would like), the search for a bigger premises started in the spring of 2024. Talking with Chronicle.lu, they confirmed that they are very happy that they were able to find a venue that caters all their and their clients needs in terms of space for all product categories, the opportunities to host events, has easy parking facilities (private, out front) and is better to reach by public transport.

The current retail premises are in the first floor of a building which used to be used as a Church before being adapted for office use for around 20 years, before being renovated again for their current use.

During Saturday's Grand Opening, the shop offered special opening offers on all brands, a gift with purchase over €75, free cake and sweets and a number of fun activities for children including a bouncy castle and face painting.

The new store features a 200 m2 LEGO® Experience in which people young and old can immerse themselves in a world of creativity and fun, a 100 m2 of model trains in an expanded collection and new product categories including model building.

Talking with Chronicle.lu, Sanne stated: "The new store gives us more space to display our large LEGO and model train collection, both new and vintage. We added also the complete Revell collection to facilitate the model builder in Luxembourg. The birthday parties and events will get a bigger place in our offering since we can now have over 15 people seated".

Background

Both Robert and Sanne come from a background in model trains. From 2002 – 2008, Robert owned two shops in model trains in the Netherlands and Sanne was working at the marketing department of a model train magazine. After working in the recruitment and the financial sectors, they moved for work to Luxembourg in 2012.

During the COVIN-19 pandemic, like many people, they were sitting at home thinking what their next move would be; then, during their six months of travel in 2022, the ideas for JBF Toys and Trains where born. An additional product to the model trains was found in LEGO - initially only vintage, but now also the full new range.

Together, Robert and Sanne have two children born and raised in Luxembourg. Next to JBF Toys and Trains, they still work in the recruitment and HR field with their company JBF Partners. They are both actively participating in an extensive number of charity initiatives with Club 41 and Ladies Circle Luxembourg respectively.
