Luxembourg secondary school Lycée de Garçons Esch (LGE) has announced that it is expanding its educational offer to include International Baccalaureate (IB) classes in English from the start of the 2020/21 school year.

The LGE has become the first school in southern Luxembourg to offer this type of English-speaking classes; the IB is also offered in English at Athénée (AL), International School Luxembourg (ISL) and the Over the Rainbow private school, all three of which are based in Luxembourg-City. The new classes also contribute to the diversification of the public school offer and thus respond to the growing diversity of students in the Grand Duchy.

The IB is offered by more than 5,000 schools in 158 countries worldwide and is recognised by Luxembourg law as equivalent to a secondary school diploma. The IB in English is aimed at students capable of attending high-level secondary education in this language and preparing for higher studies. With the exception of French and Luxembourgish languages, all subjects are taught in English.

Grades 7-9: three preparatory classes from 2020/21

IB preparation includes five preparatory years (grades 7 - 11) and two years of the IB programme itself (grades 12 and 13). The first four preparatory years (grades 7-10) will be offered at the LGE: grades 7, 8 and 9 from 2020/21 and grade 10 from 2021/22. The corresponding timetables can be found on the school's website: www.lge.lu.
