On Saturday 8 March 2025, a delegation from the Dutch political party PCG Buren paid a visit to Vianden in Luxembourg, presenting an historic vase to the town’s mayor.

During an official reception at Vianden town hall, the delegates formally presented Mayor of Vianden, François Weyrich, with an historic vase featuring an image of Vianden Castle. The gift was offered as a symbol of the growing relationship between Vianden and the Dutch town of Buren.

The reception was also attended by a delegation from the Dutch Embassy in Luxembourg, emphasising the importance of the historic ties between the Union of Orange Cities (Oranjesteden) and the broader diplomatic and cultural ties between the two nations.

Following the reception, the delegation visited Vianden Castle, an historical landmark with close connections to the Oranjesteden, providing an opportunity for discussions regarding the shared cultural heritage of the union and the town of Vianden. The visit also focused on the promotion of Buren-based businesses with the delegation bringing regional products from the municipality, again highlighting economic and cultural ties whilst also offering opportunities for future collaboration.

Representatives of the municipality of Buren confirmed in discussions with Vianden's representatives that a return visit will take place in the near future. A delegation from Vianden will travel to Buren, not only to explore the region but also to meet with local entrepreneurs, providing an opportunity to further promote Buren's businesses and tourism appeal.

Chairman of the Protestant Christian Group (PCG) and part of the Buren delegation, Jan Keuken, commented: "This visit was a wonderful opportunity to deepen our historical and cultural connections while also actively supporting our regional entrepreneurs on an international level. The warm welcome in Vianden and the presence of the Dutch Embassy confirm that there are many opportunities for continued cooperation."

The Union of Orange Cities (Oranjesteden) is a collection of towns and cities across Europe which share a significant connection with the current reigning house of the Netherlands, the House of Orange-Nassau.
