Luxembourg's Administrative Court has annulled the municipal (local) election results in Beaufort.
On Tuesday 4 July 2023, the Administrative Court ruled that three appeals lodged against the local elections of 11 June 2023 in the municipality of Beaufort were admissible.
According to the court, these appeals came from Luxembourg's Minister for Home Affairs, one female voter and the eleven candidates on the Är Lett party list in Beaufort.
One of the candidates was found to have failed to meet the eligibility conditions provided for in Article 192 of the amended electoral law, namely having one's usual residence in the municipality (for at least six months) at the time of applying to become a candidate.
The court subsequently annulled the election results, meaning that residents of Beaufort will have to go to the polls again at a later date.
The initial (now annulled) election results had seen Är Lett secure almost 60% of the votes in Beaufort, whilst Biergerlëscht Beaufort/Dillingen/Grundhof received just over 40%.
