The Democratic Party (DP) announced on Friday that Yuriko Backes has been selected to become the next Minister of Finance of Luxembourg.

This news follows the announcement on Tuesday that Pierre Gramegna would be stepping down from the role for personal reasons.

Prime Minister Xavier Bettel will now propose Yuriko Backes as the country's new Minister of Finance to His Royal Highness the Grand Duke of Luxembourg.

Ms Backes will be the first woman in Luxembourgish history to assume this position.

Since June 2020, Ms Backes has served as Marshal of the Grand Ducal Court. Before that, she was head of the Representation of the European Commission in Luxembourg.
