According to other local news sources, and confirmation from the Democratic Party (DP), Gilles Baum will be acting as DP parliamentary group leader in Luxembourg's Chamber of Deputies following the death of his predecessor Eugène Berger on Tuesday.
In light of the news of Eugène Berger's death, Gilles Baum has temporarily taken over as DP parliamentary group leader. The party had reportedly planned for Mr Baum, an MP for the eastern constituency of Luxembourg, to assume this role in 2021.
Local news sources have reported that Gilles Baum has requested a vote on the decision once the group returns to the Chamber of Deputies.
It is probable that Pim Knaff will succeed Eugène Berger as the DP's MP for the southern constituency of Luxembourg.
The Chamber of Deputies has also suspended its parliamentary sessions for this week and announced that it would hold a commemoration session in honour of the late Eugène Berger some time next week.
