In the run-up to the European elections in Luxembourg, held on 26 May 2019, the Ministry for Equality between Women and Men has launched the "Vote for equality" awareness campaign.

This new campaign, starting on Monday 13 May, will promote the importance of balanced gender representation in political decision-making. In this context, it will invite voters to ensure gender balance in the European Parliament.

Speaking on the campaign, Minister for Equality between Women and Men, Taina Bofferding, stated: "Women make up half of the population. It is fair that they are as represented in decision-making positions as men". She added: "We need the eyes of women and men to ensure positive measures for society as a whole". As such, the campaign will highlight how supporting both women and men candidates in elections can help to contribute to a fair and inclusive society.

The awareness campaign in the traditional media and on social networks (#vote5050) will begin today, Monday 13 May 2019. More information on the current situation in the European Parliament and the issues of gender diversity are developed on an online thematic page: www.50-50.lu.

In addition, in order to stimulate reflection, the Ministry for Equality between Women and Men is organising a round-table, in cooperation with the National Council of Women of Luxembourg, this Thursday on the theme of Europe and equality between women and men. Guests from the fields of justice, entrepreneurship, municipalities, the arts, research and civil society will focus more specifically on the theme of "diversity, an engine and European model" to address concrete challenges in both professional and public life.
