Luxembourg Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Jean Asselborn, travelled to Switzerland for a working visit on 2 and 3 May 2018.

At the invitation of Astrid Epiney, President of the University of Fribourg, and Dirk Morschett, Director of the Centre for European Studies, Minister Asselborn gave a speech at the University of Fribourg on the occasion of the 43rd Europe Day.

In his presentation on "The role of the European Union in Europe and in the world", the Luxembourg diplomat discussed in detail the latest developments in European political news, before engaging in a question-and-answer session with the audience. The minister also took the opportunity to meet and talk with the many Luxembourgish students at the University of Fribourg.

In Berne, Jean Asselborn then met Federal Councillor and Head of the Federal Department of Justice and Police (FDJP) of the Swiss Confederation, Simonetta Sommaruga, for an interview. The exchange of views made it possible to tackle- in addition to bilateral relations- issues related to migration along with other European policy and common interest issues.
